The strapline says it all 'Adventures with
Kayaks'. Captivating accounts of potential epics, Mike shares his often
entertaining personal thoughts on his experiences and predicaments in which he
finds himself. His travels take him around the globe, in constant search for
new whitewater. He describes the trials and tribulations of some dramatic
journeys, recounting experiences deep inside river gorges both when the way out
is down and sometimes up vertical! I can recognise adventures we have shared
together and the quality of the recall and detail in the scenes make for an
informative and inspirational account accompanied by photographs which have
captured the moment.
In amongst the adventure is a light hearted theory
about the existence of scrimblies to which incidents can be credited, Mike's
style of writing here is even poetic! He puts his own spin on the river grading
system and has a thought provoking approach to decision making prior to running
a rapid, aimed at all paddlers. His open and honest account of his feelings
adds a personal touch. Transport issues and dilemmas, often in countries where
communication is limited or non-existent, together with details of epic
descents you just do not want to repeat, make this a read you do not want to
miss.
